About the Company
Our client is a leading Australian horticultural business operating large-scale almond and tree nut orchards across regional Australia. The company is known for its investment in state-of-the-art irrigation systems, sustainable water use practices, and commitment to innovation in precision agriculture.
About the role
This is a pivotal, hands-on management role leading the irrigation and fertigation operations across extensive orchard assets. Reporting to the Farm Manager, you’ll be responsible for maintaining optimal water efficiency, system reliability, and tree health throughout each growing cycle. The role requires a balance of technical expertise, team leadership, and practical on-ground management.
Main Responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate all irrigation and fertigation activities to ensure consistent soil moisture and plant performance throughout the season.
• Utilise telemetry data and field monitoring tools to schedule irrigation based on weather, soil moisture, and water-table data.
• Oversee the operation and maintenance of pumps, controllers, pipelines, valves, filters, and drip systems.
• Supervise, train, and develop a small team of irrigation operators, ensuring safe and efficient practices.
• Maintain accurate records of water and power use, chemical and fertiliser applications, and system performance.
• Manage budgets for labour, repairs, and consumables within the irrigation cost centre.
• Implement continuous improvement initiatives in irrigation performance, water use efficiency, and system reliability
Requirements
Education / Experience / Skills
• Minimum 5 years’ experience in irrigation management or as a senior irrigation 2IC within large-scale horticultural or tree-nut operations.
• Strong working knowledge of irrigation systems, telemetry platforms, and fertigation processes.
• Demonstrated leadership skills and ability to manage teams in a hands-on environment.
• Excellent planning, record-keeping, and communication skills.
• Qualifications in Horticulture, Irrigation, or Agricultural Management desirable.
• Current driver’s licence essential.
