About the Company
Harvest Road Horticulture is located at Brickhouse Station on the banks of the Gascoyne River, approximately 16 kilometers from Carnarvon, Western Australia. The fertile soils and climate conditions support intensive horticultural production across mangoes, sweet potatoes and agave.
About the role
Reporting to senior management, you will lead the day-to-day performance of the horticulture business unit, including staff, contractors, crop operations, irrigation, compliance and farm development.
Main Responsibilities
(must be demonstrated in your application letter/resume)
• Managing daily farm operations across sweet potatoes, mangoes and other horticultural crops.
• Leading, supervising and developing staff, leading hands, farm hands and contractors.
• Planning and delivering crop production programs, including planting, crop establishment, irrigation, nutrition, weed control, pest management, harvest and post-harvest activities.
• Managing irrigation systems, including drip and pivot irrigation, scheduling, monitoring and maintenance.
• Operating, maintaining and overseeing tractors, spray rigs, sweet potato planting and harvesting equipment, mango picking aids and general farm machinery.
• Working closely with agronomists, consultants and management to improve soil health, crop health, yield, quality and overall farm performance.
• Preparing and delivering annual farm operational plans, budgets and seasonal work programs.
• Maintaining accurate farm, chemical, irrigation, labour, production and compliance records.
• Ensuring safe work practices and compliance with WHS, environmental, Freshcare and HARPS requirements.
• Driving continuous improvement across farm systems, equipment, infrastructure, labour efficiency and production outcomes.
• Contributing to future farm development, including expanded crop production, improved irrigation utilisation and packing shed capability.
Education / Experience / Skills
• Demonstrated experience in horticulture, vegetable production, sweet potatoes, mangoes, irrigated cropping or intensive crop production.
• Strong understanding of commercial farm operations, seasonal planning, crop timing, labour planning and harvest execution.
• Good knowledge of irrigation systems, ideally including drip and centre pivot irrigation.
• Practical machinery capability, including tractors, implements, spray equipment and harvesting equipment.
• Sound knowledge of chemical application, weed management, pest management and safe spray practices.
• Ability to lead permanent staff, seasonal workers and contractors in a practical farm environment.
• Strong communication skills, including the ability to work effectively with people from different backgrounds and where English may not be their first language.
• High attention to detail with accurate record keeping and compliance focus.
• Understanding of workplace health and safety, Freshcare, HARPS or similar quality/compliance systems.
• Current driver’s licence.
• A hands-on, reliable, accountable and commercially sensible approach.
