About the Company

Our client is an independent agricultural co-operative based in the Ord River Irrigation Area, Kununurra, Western Australia. 

About the role

Our client is seeking a Training Agronomist to join our Agronomy Team in the Ord River Irrigation Area. Working alongside experienced agronomists, you will provide agronomic, crop scouting, sales and marketing services to support Our client’s members and customers across one of Australia’s most productive irrigated farming regions.
This is a development role suited to someone building a career in agronomy, with structured support and training from a senior team.

Main Responsibilities
(must be demonstrated in your application letter/resume)

• Conduct crop scouting programmes for insect, weed and disease incidence, and at times lead scouting teams
• Train and support entry-level scout team members
• Maintain accurate scouting records and report findings to clients across a range of reporting platforms
• Conduct soil and leaf nutrient testing and, with support, interpret results and prepare draft reports and recommendations
• Support installation and maintenance of soil moisture monitoring equipment and contribute to irrigation scheduling recommendations
• Build working relationships with key suppliers and assist with supplier visits
• Support new product development for the local marketplace
• Assist with agronomic marketing activities including client contact, farmer meetings, demonstrations, trial sites, newsletters and social media
• Represent company at industry meetings, conferences and seminars
• Provide merchandise support including customer service, stock-takes and inventory management
• Support operations and cotton classing during peak load periods

Requirements

Education / Experience / Skills

• A tertiary qualification in agricultural science, agronomy or a related discipline, or equivalent industry experience
• Knowledge of broadacre and/or horticultural cropping systems, ideally in irrigated production
• Understanding of crop scouting, soil and leaf nutrition, and irrigation management
• Strong record-keeping, reporting and client communication skills
• Willingness to work in a remote regional location and travel within the district
• A current Australian driver’s licence
